Sydney Adoli is a jack of all trades, he has tried his hands in pageants as a former Mr. KU, he is passionate about giving back to the society, which he does through Hope Hands Life Trust as the CEO and founder and he is no stranger when it comes to KU politics.

As the KU elections draw near, the medical student sat down with Campus Vibe to talk about himself, causes that he is passionate about and vying  to be in KUSA for the 2nd time.

CV: Tell me a little about yourself

Sidney: My name is Sydney Adoli. I am a 6th year student of medicine and surgery at Kenyatta University.

CV: What do you like doing during your free time Sidney?

Sidney: Reading, networking swimming and watching movies

CV: Who is your role model?

Sidney: Nelson Mandela, he was selfless enough to nature and groom a country that was in deep division of apartheid and still gave an opportunity to believe in someone else.

Tom Mboya and J.M Kariuki are also two other people whom I look up to. They were martyrs of hope as they lost their lives fighting for the cause of justice for all Kenyans.

Myself, Sydney Adoli: much has been given. Much is expected.

CV: Let’s talk about your political journey now, last year you vied for the very first time and unfortunately you lost.

Sidney: That is true

CV: Despite all of that you are vying again this year

Sidney: Correct, I am vying to be the next President of Kenyatta University Student Association (KUSA)

CV: Why did you decide to give it another shot, most people fail and the keep off politics completely?

Sidney: If you honestly want to serve the community, country or nation, you will not rest until you serve your purpose. But honestly politics has very strange twists. Just have the interest of people at heart, you will do well.

CV: Why the President position, there are so many dockets to choose from, why this particular one?

Sidney: 1st as a person I will be able to address overall issues affecting comrades. I am personal with most people if not everyone. That means that it will be easier to address the diverse issues as a campus chair than in any other position.

People need inclusion in governance which is a directive of the chair. I believe in the philosophy “I am because we are and because we are I am”

CV: There are always some lessons learnt after vying and loosing. What did you learn from your loss last year?

Sidney: Never try to please everybody. That is the beginning of your failure. Believe in yourself 1st that is very fundamental. Victory comes from the heart. Nothing is stronger than your will.

CV: What do you intend to do differently this time, to make sure that you win?

Sidney: Talk to people. Be honest with them. Mobilize them to turn up.

CV: Have you always been interested in Politics?

Sidney: Yes. I am in a political family from both sides.

CV: Aside from politics, what other causes have you engaged in?

Sidney: I have been a community leader before and we have started a foundation called Hope Hands Life that champions of fistula and reproductive health, as well as cancer awareness campaigns.

Recently we incorporated leadership and entrepreneurship to help groom youth into responsible members of society.

CV: What will KU be like with you as the Chairperson hopefully?

Sidney: Transparency and inclusion in KUSA. Student empowerment. I believe we are all leaders and that individual responsibility is paramount. And when we come together we will be an unstoppable force of paradigm shift.

CV: You know in most universities and the nation as a whole tribalism defines politics, your last name could be the key to winning or losing it all, what is your take on this?

Sidney: Kenya is at a point of breaking forth and campus should be the hotbed of embracing diversity. Whoever still votes or subscribes to tribal agendas is barbaric and uncultured. Especially because they are the people who the rest of the country look up to.

CV: Do you intend to venture into national politics, for most campus politicians it is usually all part of the bigger picture that is parliament?

Sidney: I wish to be a leader beyond the walls of this institution henceforth.

CV: One lesson about life that you will always carry with you…..

Sidney: Friends who believe in you are not friends. They become family. This is because you stop sharing the normal things and share a will. That will supersede any commonality. Such will not only stand with you in weakness but will point them out for you to create a paradigm shift
