Sauti sol's underwhelming performance in Los Angeles disappoints fan base

Sauti Sol have a lead hit song called “Mushivala” (Luhya meaning trouble) about women that lead men into nothing but trouble. In light of this song, I think it is important the group take some time and re-examine what their mission in the music world is.

I say this because of the underwhelming concert performance held in Los Angeles on the 27th of June, 2015. This came on the heels of another poor show in Seattle Washington a few weeks before when some members of the group failed to show up for the concert! At the Los Angeles event, the cover charge was a high $40. Having paid this cash, it was only fair patrons got their monies worth. This unfortunately did not happen. Sauti Sol played for less than 15 minutes from what was to be a four hour show. Clearly a poor choice of tact.

Secondly, the sound system was horrible. It blared like a cheap second hand concoction in a cheap bar in River Road. Certainly not good image potrayed in the City of Angles. Lastly, efforts to get patron concerns addressed by the event organizers were met with abuse and profanity.

If Sauti Sol want to get diaspora support, they need to stop taking African patrons for granted. Patrons provided with good value for money, will keep coming. I think that if a show is running late, it is only fair to let patrons know.

Also, when concerns are raised, management needs not get defensive but address the patron concerns. Sauti Sol has undisputed talent but their lack of professionalism on the big stage is taking away from it.

Hundreds of revelers were quietly dissatisfied at the 15-minute performance from the group, the failing sound system and the unprofessional the team handling Sauti Sol in the City.

Quite frankly, if this is the picture of Kenyan music to be portrayed abroad, Kenyan bands like Sauti Sol are going nowhere.

I was very disappointed with the whole event. The group seriously needs to reconsider how it approaches concerts as it is becoming synonymous with profligacy and ineptitude. Woe unto the day Sauti Sol finds itself  “Mushivala”
