Kisumu FC 2025 Esports gaming tournament set to thrill Manyatta slums

[Easports Kenya Federation] The bustling Manyatta Slums in Kisumu will come alive on Saturday as the highly anticipated Kisumu FC 2025 Esports Gaming Tournament kicks off at the House of Pain next to Magadi Primary School. The tournament has already attracted nearly 100 gamers, with organizers expecting more registrations as the big day approaches. According to Tournament Director Kevin Wambua, the event has so far drawn interest from over 20 gamers across the vast Nyanza and Western regions, with others coming from as far as Nigeria. Wambua emphasized that the event is not only about gaming but also a step towards commercializing eSports in Kisumu and showcasing the immense potential of the multibillion-dollar industry. "Our main goal is to grow and commercialize gaming in Kisumu, and we believe this tournament will serve as a major stepping stone," Wambua said. "We have put together a comprehensive plan to ensure the day is a success, from securing a suitable venue to setting up high-quality gaming equipment and creating a platform for gamers to showcase their skills. However, we still need more support from sponsors to elevate this tournament to the level it deserves." Wambua called on potential sponsors to partner with them, highlighting the untapped potential of esports in the region. "This is a multibillion-dollar industry that has yet to be fully tapped in Kenya, particularly in Nyanza and Western. [Washingto Onyango,Standard] The tournament will feature some of the region's top gamers, including well-known usernames such as Vokhe Mbweha, Cliff Terminator, Kevo Oppo aka Chiang Chiang, Vanty aka Glich, Raul, and King Karamor from Nigeria. Other names to watch include George the Terminator's Terminator, Speet, Bongez CK, Babab Voss, Kratos, Jim, Shaddy, Edmon the Constitution, Dr Ezra, Okeyo Scamidoz, Arno Polite, and JaSigana. Speaking about his preparation for the tournament, fan-favorite Kevo Oppo, also known as Chiang Chiang, revealed his excitement and readiness to take on the competition. "I've been dedicating several hours every day to perfect my skills. This is not just about winning-it's about showcasing Kisumu's talent on a big stage. I'm looking forward to an intense and entertaining tournament," Kevo said. Despite the growing interest, Wambua criticized the Esports Federation of Kenya (EFK) for neglecting gamers from regions like Nyanza and Western, stating that the focus has been largely on Nairobi. "It's frustrating that our gamers here don't receive the recognition they deserve. We have the talent, but the support has been minimal. It's time for the federation to prioritize inclusivity and give us a platform," he remarked. In response, Esports Federation of Kenya President Ronny Mamba acknowledged the efforts of community organizers like Wambua, expressing optimism for the future of eSports across the country. "Esports Kenya appreciates the great efforts that several video gaming communities in Kenya are putting in to organize community competitions, which contribute immensely to the growth of esports in Kenya. As a new federation, we are actively and steadily expanding our efforts beyond the capital city, as witnessed with what we have done in Mombasa and Nakuru this year. "In 2025, we shall be moving to more regions in a bid to grow the sport. Our key focus is on sensitization and training, as it is through building capacity that we shall empower our players," Mamba said. The Kisumu FC 2025 Esports Gaming Tournament promises to be a thrilling event and a significant step towards cementing Kisumu's place in the growing esports landscape in Kenya.
