Mugs mug kicks off

The Attacker

A youthful "Red Hot" composed of Milo McConnell (-1.5), Charlie Mclellan (0.5), Rishi Ahluwalia (0) and Craig Millar (2) are hot favourites to win this year’s coveted polo Mugs Mug tournament that starts tomorrow and runs throughout the weekend at Nairobi Polo Club.

They will be challenging "Cruise Controls" comprising Kigen Moi (-0.5), Vishal Somaia (0.5), Jean Phillipe Salle (2.5) and Gideon Moi (0.5). They are among a record entry of 14 teams that will duel for this highly rated silverware.

The Mugs Mug tournament is the only tournament of its kind in Africa. It enables junior and upcoming players to play together with more experienced senior players in one team.

Polo season

The Mugs Mug is the most fiercely-competed tournament of the local polo season, where winning is everything and losing is not an option.

A record 14 teams have entered this year’s competition and over 250 horses will be playing in the largest equine gathering in East Africa.

Polo was described in ancient times as the ‘sport of kings’, but more recently it is recognised as the ‘king of sports’. Many an accomplished athlete harbours secret desires for the ultimate sporting challenge - polo.

Around the world, its popularity has grown over the past few years, attracting large crowds of spectators from the corporate and social world. In Kenya, the mystique has given way to what is turning out to be the most exciting social and family excursion.
