Grow millet and cassava, Kalonzo tells residents

Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka has appealed to residents of Ukambani to plant drought resistant crops to ensure food security.

The VP said crops such as cassava, sorghum, millet and green grams require little rain and mature faster unlike maize, which is the common crop. He assured residents the Government has measures to alleviate poverty and hunger.

Kalonzo was speaking at Tala market in Kangundo District where he was the chief guest during the official launch of Equity Bank, Tala branch.

Water Reservoirs

The bank, in collaboration with Kenya Breweries, donated sorghum seeds worth Sh10 million to the region.

He noted that the brewer would buy the produce after harvests.

The VP also urged residents to construct more water reservoirs to tap enough rainwater, which would help them in dry seasons.
