12 people die in 48 hours due to floods

12 people have died in the last 48 hours due to floods bringing the death toll to 154, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has said.

Mwaura, in a statement on Monday, December 4, also stated that the continued floods had led to cholera and other waterborne diseases.

"103 cholera cases have been confirmed in Lamu County, with two resultant deaths," said Mwaura.

Additionally, the government says 93 facilities nationwide have been disrupted due to cut-off roads.

The government has also warned on roads that have become impassable due to the persistent effects of floods.

The Moyale-Dabel-Buna-Eldas-Grifti- Wajir road is partially impassable at Dela, Korrondile and Buna sections while the Madogo-CheredendBilbil-Bura-Hola road at Dukanotu is submerged. Additionally, the Garsen-Witu-Lamu road is partially impassable.

Mwaura has reminded Kenyans to stay vigilant and to follow safety guidelines during the El Nino period.

"We urge Kenyans to be updated on weather alerts and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety, particularly in food-prone regions," said Mwaura.
