Two suspects in custody over reveler's murder

Kiambu Law Courts court has allowed police to continue holding two suspects linked to the murder of a reveler outside Qukin Lounge in Ruaka, Kiambu county.

The late Anthony Njomo was allegedly shot by an individual from a group that had an altercation outside the establishment on Saturday. The 35-year-old was an engineer at the US Embassy in Nairobi.

Police sought 10 days to continue holding David Nason Kiteme and Joseph Njenga in to conclude their investigations.

Peter Kangawi, the investigating officer told the court that Njomo succumbed to gunshot wounds, and Kiteme and Njenga were arrested on Sunday in connection with the incident. 

The prosecution sought to have the suspects detained for 21 days because of the gravity of the offense.

“In the circumstance, the right to freedom isn’t absolute. The shooter is still at large and preliminary investigations places the two at the scene of crime together with the shooter," Rose Kibutha told the court.

Kibutha further said that are yet to complete the ballistics examination.

Kiambu Resident Magistrate Wanjiru Njuguna ordered that the suspects be held for 10 days at the Kiambu Police Station.

The case will be mentioned on June 10.
