Meanwhile, a suspected motorcycle thief was lynched by an irate mob at Nyangweso Market in Homa Bay.

This is after residents accused him of being in possession of a motorcycle he had allegedly stolen at the market last week.

Moments after he was nabbed, the suspect allegedly attempted to escape with a another motorcycle but the mob blocked him before he could escape. He was assaulted with crude weapons and died instantly.

Gordon Ouma, a victim of the Nyangweso Market motorbike theft, said that prior to being killed, the suspect confessed that they had a store in Rodi Kopany Township in the neighbouring Homa Bay Sub-County, where they were keeping stolen motorbikes.

"He revealed to the mob that they had a store in Rodi Kopany which they use for keeping stolen motorbikes. We call on our security agencies to do a crackdown," Ouma said.

According to the chairman of Nyangweso Market Traders Union, Mika Osiga, cases of motorbike theft have been on the rise in the recent past.

"Cases of motorbike theft are on the rise in this market. The motorbikes are stolen on Thursdays which is the market day," Osiga said.

The chief of East Kochia Location Kenneth Odero warned residents to avoid taking the law into their hands.
