Battle lines have been drawn as the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) 2024 season comes to an end this weekend at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.

Defending champions will have everything to fight for as they seek to outclass their opponents and retain their titles.

However, they face an uphill task as they face off with former titleholders who are yearning to reclaim lost glory.

Prisons Kenya men will take on 2022 winners General Service Unit (GSU) in the first tie of the three-match series with a victory in today's clash moving them closer to retaining the men's crown.

In the women's contest, holders KCB will lock horns with Prisons Kenya who are looking to recapture the title they last won in 2021.

KCB who are eyeing a second title in a row will be hoping that the gods of volleyball smile at them so they overcome Prisons who have made intentions to end a two-year trophy drought known with brilliant performances.

KCB also face injury threats with some their key players in doubt for today's encounter.

Even so, KCB coach Japheth Munala remains confident that his charges will give their best and end the season on a high.

"Some of my players are injured but that does not mean that it is the end for us. They have been recovering well and I'm hopeful that they will be ready for the final," Munala said.

He added that they have also worked on improving their game based on their previous encounters and with a proper execution they will give a good account of themselves.

"We have worked on our serves, defence and offence and if everything works according to plan then we will be able to wrap up the series in the second match. We respect Prisons because they are a very experienced side but we remain optimistic that our hardwork and dedication will bear fruit."

Munala will bank on captain and middle blocker Edith Wisa, outside hitter Juliana Namutira, in form setter Esther Mutinda, middle blocker Belinda Barasa and libero Linzy Jeruto.

Munala's equal Josp Barasa on the other hand will be out to ensure that his charges win today's tie and remain on course to recapturing their title.

Barasa will rely on the services outside hitter Meldine Sande, opposite hitter Immaculate Chemutai, middle blocker Anne Lowem who has been impressive and setter Joy Luseneka who is also the team's skipper.

Fresh from winning bronze in the 2024 men's Africa Clubs Championships, Prisons men will be hoping to crown the season with the league trophy.

They will, however, have to fight tooth and nail against wounded GSU who will be out to salvage their pride.

Prisons who have exhibited steady progression after being overshadowed by GSU for many years will are keen to successfully defend their title.
