Agency seeks to implement Sh120b water, sanitation projects

The North Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency (NRVWWDA) plans to implement five legacy projects worth Sh120 billion in the next five years.
The agency board chairman John Lonyangapuo said that Moi's Bridge, Matunda Water and Sewerage in Uasin Gishu county are among the five mega projects that will benefit from Sh1.9 billion.
Speaking in Eldoret on Tuesday, Prof Lonyangapuo said the state agency was seeking more funds from the African Development Bank to complete key projects.
He announced that Elgeyo Marakwet, Turkana, West Pokot, and Uasin Gishu counties will benefit from the multi-billion shillings water and sanitation infrastructure.
"We are committed to ensuring that the residents of this region have access to reliable and sustainable water and sanitation services. Our strategic plan for 2023-2028 development under the guidance of our board of directors and the ministry is going on smoothly," he said.

Lonyangapuo said in Elgeyo Marakwet county, the construction of the Sabor-Iten water supply project, was under design and upon completion it will ensure irrigation and domestic water supply.
He revealed that the state agency is also constructing Lodwar town water supply projects in Turkana county funded by African Development Bank.
Lonyangapuo who was accompanied by other board members said they are designing an alternative water source from River Turkana to supplement the existing groundwater supply in Lodwar town.
"We also plan to design a comprehensive sewerage system for the town with anticipated support from the government and development partners because what we are doing is a long-term project," he said.
The former West Pokot governor said they are in the process of implementing Siyoi Muruny water and Sewerage projects in Kapenguria and Chebareri in collaboration with other agencies including Central Rift Valley Waterworks Development Authority.
"The state agency is also designing water supply augmentation for the towns of Sigor and Kacheliba in West Pokot County," he said.
