Samburu county government has received a fire engine to boost its emergency response.

Speaking when he commissioned the multi-functional fire truck, Governor Lati Lelelit said residents have for long suffered because they lacked fire fighting services.

Lelelit noted that the Sh59 million fire engine with capacity for six crew and fitted with sufficient equipment, would go a long way in addressing rampant fire incidents in the county.

“We have budgeted for two more fire engines in the next financial year. We plan to have one stationed in Samburu East sub-county and the other in Samburu North, that way, we can handle any fire emergency in the county,” he said.

Senator Steve Lelegwe, who witnessed the commissioning of the fire engine to be stationed in Maralal town said the acquisition was timely and necessary.

“The purchase of the fire engine is one way to show prudent use of county resources. The truck is a necessary equipment that has been lacking in the region for long,” he said.

MPs Jackson Lekumontare (Samburu East) and his Samburu North counterpart Eli Letipila said Maralal town was developing fast and the purchase of the fire engine was timely.
