UDA postpones polls to April next year

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party has postponed its grassroots election to April 2024.
Though no immediate reasons were given for the postponement, the party Secretary-General Cleophas Malala said the polls, set for December 9 will now take place on diverse dates in April 2024.
The changes come after a meeting of the party's council meeting chaired by President William Ruto.
"Following a National Steering Council meeting held on November 18, UDA Party wishes to notify all members and aspirants that the grassroots elections scheduled for December have been postponed," said Malala.
The elections will now take place on April 12, 19 and 24, divided into three clusters.

Last month, The Standard reliably learnt that two factions were pushing for different dates.
Ruto's allies were adamant that UDA elections should be held in December, with plans afoot to oust current interim officials they accuse of mismanaging the party.
However, another group wanted the elections pushed to next year, a move that will now see the terms of the current officials extended.
The UDA grassroots polls will be the first held since the General Election.
