Embrace TVET learning, PS Omollo tells Ndhiwa residents

The government has urged youths to embrace technical and vocational education training (TVET) institutions to acquire critical skills.

Speaking in Kanyadoto ward, Ndhiwa Constituency during the burial of retired teacher, Francis Achola Orata, Dr Omollo told the youth to value TVET.

“Let our youth who have not attained university grades in KCSE exams join TVET institutions. This will equip them with skills for enhancing economic growth in our country,” Dr Omollo said. 

He said the government had set aside more than Sh600 billion shillings for building human capacity in which TVET is given more focus. This is in a bid to equip the youth with skills which are relevant in the job market. 

“The government invested more than Sh600 billion to build human capital from the lowest level of education to the highest level. But the emphasis in this budget is TVET,” Dr Omollo said.

Creation of the digital laboratories will enable the youth to access the internet in their villages. The internet will enable them to do online jobs and other activities which can earn them a living. 

He said legislation had been made to enable the construction of the digital laboratories using funds from the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF). 

“The laws have been amended to allow the GCDF to allocate funds for the construction of digital laboratories in all wards across the country. For the sake of Homa Bay County where we are, each of the 40 wards will have a digital laboratory in this programme,” Dr Omollo said. 

The PS urged the youth to venture into agriculture as a way of creating employment and boosting food security.

He said Kenya depends on agriculture as the backbone of her economy.  Dr Omollo told farmers to utilize subsidized fertilizers to produce food. 

“Fertilizers used to be sold exorbitantly but they have been subsidised. Let our farmers use them for producing food as the planting season begins,” Dr Omollo said.
