Nderi lifts Golden 50s title

Martin Nderi, a seasoned golfer, had a successful run at the Kenya Railway Golf Club course on Saturday, winning the Golden 50s golf title.
Playing off a handicap of 17, Nderi scored 41 stableford points, outperforming the 222 participants in the tournament, which was presented by Kingdom Bank and Golden 50's Members, a group consisting mostly of members who are 50 and 60 years old.
The tournament took place over two days, and several winners emerged.
On Friday, George Kirathe, playing off handicap 13, returned a score of 4-under-68 to win, followed by Stanley Karanja, who came in second with 71 nett, while Onassis Ndegwa, playing off handicap 3, won the Gross prize with 81 Gross points.
In the professional ranks, Kevin Mabele and Jacob Okello, resident pros, were a stroke adrift after firing rounds of 75 and 76 Gross to claim first and second place in the Pro prize.
A total of eight twos were recorded on Friday by Kang'e Saiti (4th), SK Mwaura (13th), Stanley Karanja (13th), and Saruni Meely (Jnr) (4th).
Others were by Ronald Wekesa (4th), Moses Mavoko (4th), P Wahome (4th) and Sam Onyambu on the fourth, with each receiving seven golf balls.
On the penultimate day, Nderi, a seasoned golfer, secured the overall prize ahead of Noah Winja, playing off handicap 14, who carded 49 stableford points to take the overall winner second prize.
Another handicap 14, Samuel Muchemi, was declared the Men winner with a compact score of 40 stableford points followed by the Men winner second, Joseph Murungi, who raked in a similar score of 40 stableford points.
Ruth Mwende had a great outing on the course, returning to the clubhouse with 38 stableford points and securing the Lady winner prize beating Flaciah Gichomo to Lady winner second also with a score of 38 stableford points.
In the sponsor's category, Phillip Wainaina, playing off handicap 12, won the Sponsor prize with a score of 37 stableford points. Adam Boru was the Sponsor winner second with 36 stableford points. RN Maina was third with a score of 36 stableford points.
Youngster Saruni Meely, posted 27 stableford points to claim the Junior prize playing off handicap 19. Stephen Chiuri won the Junior winner second prize with a score of 24 stableford points.
"We came up with this idea of celebrating our ages by sponsoring a tournament that has turned out to be a great event in all aspects. We encourage others to do the same," said Ken Mburu, Chairman - Golden 50's Members.
