Over 200 golfers to grace Nakuru tourney on Saturday

The hilly par-72, Nakuru Golf Club course will on Saturday host the 2024 Captain Mathew Maiyo prize tournament.

Having skipped the club's golf section for the year 2023/24, Maiyo will be seeking to end his stint in captaincy on a high as 240 golfers navigate the fairways in pursuit of greatness and top honors.

The tournament kicked off with the Captain's Clubnite on Thursday as a prelude to the headliner Captain's prize tomorrow which will see the first flight head out at 6.30am in a continuous draw from the par-four first hole through the 10th hole all the way to the 18th hole with all those playing expected to finish their rounds on time.

An elaborate marshalling plan has been set out by the tournament committee to ensure that everything flows from beginning to the end.

On Sunday, there will be a Captain's Junior clinic for budding home golfers as well as those from other clubs before curtains fall with the Captain's Caddies tournament on Monday.

Maiyo will be signing off with his head high having hosted the biggest number of sponsored tournaments ever, in club's history including the biggest KECOSO tournament which raked Sh4.6 million sponsorship.

Under the NGC climate mitigation initiative, he oversaw the planting of more than 10,000 tree seedlings as they aligned with the spirited fight against global warming in association with various sponsors. 

"I welcome all to a thrilling golfing weekend and we have four events lined up for this Captain's prize which begins on Thursday and will end on Monday," Maiyo said.
