A swimming expedition in a quarry today ended tragically after two men drowned.

The tragedy at a quarry in Nthangathiri village, Mbeere North sub-county left one more person in shock after he was rescued.

Witnesses said the two were among a group of four men who had gone to the quarry, as usual, to harvest concrete and other building materials when they decided to swim before embarking on the Job

According to the witnesses, one of the deceased experienced challenges after jumping in the water as he seemed overwhelmed by the muddy waters.

This saw his colleague follow in an attempt to rescue him before they both drowned.

In another attempt to rescue his colleagues who still struggling with the waters, the third man was again overwhelmed but luckily saved by first responders who heard the distress calls.

Embu North Sub County Police Commander Eric Yego said police arrived at the scene and launched a search to find the bodies.

Yego said they have contacted the county disaster management and rescue teams to accelerate the mission.
