KRA lists over 100 vehicles under investigation for tax-related issues

You have until October 6, 2023 to present your vehicle for inspection at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) offices across the country, if it appears in the authority's list.

KRA has listed over 119 vehicles which are under investigation due to several tax-related issues.

According to a public notice dated Thursday, September 28, via the authority's social media platforms and website, the owners are to present the cars for inspection.

"The owners are required to present the vehicles together with the original ownership, sale agreement, transfer and importation documents to the Commissioner of Intelligence, Strategic Operations, Investigations and Enforcement," read the notice.

The Authority said the cars should be taken to their offices at Forodha House in Mombasa, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) - Nairobi, Kiptagich House - Eldoret, Nakuru - Generation House George Morara Avenue, Nyeri - Veka Plaza, Isiolo - Landmark Hotel or Kisumu Swan Centre for inspection.

The timeline for the presentation is between Wednesday, September 27, to Friday, October 6.

KRA also added that owners of the cars listed are required to take notice of Section 204 of the East African Community Customs Management Act, 2004, which states: "a person who, when required in accordance with this Act to produce any book, document, or other things, in his or her possession or under his or her control or to perform any act, refuses or fails to do so commits an offense."

This comes in the back of an intensified crackdown by KRA on motor vehicles suspected to have been illegally registered in the local market.
