Man accused of plucking wife’s hair agrees to pay dowry

A businessman accused of assaulting his wife and plucking her hair has been let off the hook by Nairobi court after pleading guilty.

Ismael Gachau was accused of assaulting Hanna Wairimu Wanjiru on July 30 at their home in Biafra, a matter that was withdrawn after the agreement.

The court heard that Hanna had been reminding the accused to pay house rent since they had delayed in making payments and the landlord was frequenting their house.

That night, it is reported that they had just arrived home from the club where they had gone to enjoy some drinks together when Hannah started the rent topic.

It was at that point that accused got furious of her wife telling her to go back to the bar where they had spent all the money on drinks and food.

The court heard, this degenerated into an argument then the accused allegedly punched her face, ribs and eyes before plucking her hair as she screamed for help. That matter was reported to police leading to Gachau’s arrest.

In court, he said that they had agreed to solve the problem thus asking the case be withdrawn; he further said he loves the complainant and that he would not repeat what he had done since he is planning to pay her dowry soon.
