It is worrying that road carnage in Kenya has taken a heavy toll on citizens.

Tragically, more than 3,000 people have died this year as a result of road accidents, while thousands of other are either permanently or temporarily incapacitated.

Hardly a day passes without reports of fatal accidents.

Understandably, as we approach the festive season, public service vehicle drivers are tempted to make a quick buck hence the flouting of traffic rules.

In fact, over-speeding, overloading and reckless driving become the norm rather than the exception during this time.

Drinking and driving has also been pointed out as another cause of accidents.

In addition, soliciting for bribes by traffic police has become the order of the day and this is another impediment to road sanity in our country.

The Traffic Police Department needs to be extra vigilant. It is high time PSV drivers and traffic police gave precedence to human life over dishonest material gain.

Give up corruption, which is like cancer.
