NAIROBI COUNTY: Huge fire engulfed a section of Gikomba market Monday evening leading to loss of property worth millions of shillings.

The fire that broke out in one of the stalls spread fast to other stalls in the busy fish section area.

Nairobi Deputy PPO Moses Ombati said that they could not ascertain the cause of the inferno or the real value of the property destroyed.

“We cannot ascertain as at now the value of the destroyed goods. Once we get the estimates we will communicate,” said Ombati.

Speaking to The Standard on phone, the Deputy PPO confirmed that there were no casualties, adding that they will launch investigations into the cause of the fire.

Nobody was injured in the incidence that took Nairobi Fire engines about one hour to contain.

St. John’s Ambulance officials reported that the Nairobi City Fire engines were containing the fire by 9 pm Monday evening.
