Gerald Bitok: Ruto's one year in office

State House Director of Communication Gerald Bitok says the Kenya Kwanza government has managed to bring down the cost of living in just a year in office.

Speaking on Spice FM on Tuesday, December 19, Bitok said that even though prices of certain commodities have fluctuated, the cost of living has gone down.

“We are not running away from the fact that things are tough for Kenyans. But we cannot run away from the progress that we’ve made,” said Bitok.

Adding that: “On average, we can say the cost of living has gone down. This is because there is a significant drop in the cost of most of the commodities.”

According to him, the change in the national conversation can be used to attest that the cost of living has gone down as Kenyans are now focusing on other merits that shape the cost of living and not the cost of maize flour and other food commodities as it was the case in 2022.

On November 1, Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) in their report stated that the cost of living rose to 6.9 per cent in October and attributed it to the rise in prices of commodities such as food and electricity.

However, according to Bitok, a balance in the cost of living cannot be attained overnight and therefore, Kenyans should be patient and commend the efforts made to bring the cost of living down.

“Yes, we are getting better however it is not an overnight thing. We need to agree that everything cannot be solved overnight. Additionally, if we must move forward, then we must appreciate the progress we’ve made and give credit where it is due,” he said
