SCHOOLS: Defending champions Nyamira Girls and Ageng'a Mixed book hockey semis in Nyanza

Defending champions Nyamira Girls thrashed Andingo of Homa Bay County 6-0 to kick of their Nyanza Region hockey girls title defense on a positive note on Thursday at Kisumu Day hockey pitch.
The multiple time Siaya County champions are already through to the semifinals as they sit top of Group A with three points ahead of their final group match against newly crowned Kisumu County champions Kisumu Girls on Friday.
Kisumu Girls who dethroned five-time East Africa champions Sinyolo Girls at the county level were forced to come from behind and force a 1-1 draw against Andingo to stay alive in the games.
Kisumu must now avoid a heavy defeat against Nyamira to qualify for the semis.
In Group B, Migori County hockey girls giants Ageng’a Mixed Secondary School booked their place in the semi-finals after a 3-2 win over Ng’iya Girls.

Ageng’a started the games with a 7-0 win over Rae Girls before edging out Ng’iya.
Ng’iya Girls who defeated Amaiko 3-0 and they must now defeat Rae Girls to qualify for the semis.
On the other hand, Kisumu Day were held to a 1-1 draw by Ringa, a result Booker Odhiambo believes will do no harm to their push to get to the semifinal.
“We will be in the semis. We only need to beat Cardinal Otunga to seal our spot and I have full confidence in the team. We were unlucky against Ringa but we have time to rectify our mistakes,” said Odhiambo.
In handball, St Mary’s Yala were held to a 34-34 draw by Menara as Nyamira Girls bounced back to thrash Ikonge Girls 22-7. Nyamira begun their campaign with a 24-20 defeat to Asumbi Girls while Yala lost 35-34 to defending champions Manyatta.
In other matches, Ndonyo defeated Menara 29-28, Miranga drew 23-23 with Guu as Yala held Menara to a 34-34 draw.
In basketball, Nyansiongo lost 51-31 to defending champions Ototo Mixed Secondary School as Nyakach Girls beat Tuk Jowi 50-39.
Nyakach who are the Kisumu County champions also demolished Mokomoni 83-11.
