Police officer hacked to death by husband day after burying kin

Police in Bungoma have arrested a middle-aged man over the suspected murder of his wife.
The male suspect is reported to have hacked his wife, a police officer, to death on Saturday morning, while at their home in Kibisi, Bungoma County.
In a police report seen by The Standard, the officer was found lying on the bed with several deep cuts to the neck and injuries to the head, which police suspect were inflicted by a sharp weapon.
It also emerged that the officer was off duty, and had sought permission to attend a burial ceremony in Webuye.

"Police officers visited the scene at Kibisi location of Bungoma North Sub-county, and established that the deceased was on off-duty permission to attend the burial ceremony of her grandmother at Misemwa village within Webuye East Sub-county when they had family differences with her husband," the report noted.
The suspect is in custody after surrendering himself, following the incident.
A murder weapon has also been recovered, and the body of the deceased moved to Lugulu Mission Hospital mortuary, awaiting a postmortem.
