A Grade Four pupil who was stabbed with a sharp weapon in the eyes after being defiled in Homa Bay has been transferred to Nairobi Women's Gender Violence Recovery Center for specialised treatment.
The nine-year-old girl is yet to regain sight more than a week after she was attacked.
Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital Quality Assurance Officer Molly Ochar said medics recommended transfer of the girl to Nairobi for specialised treatment.
"The girl is responding well to medication even though she has not regained her sight. We wanted her to recover in a safe and friendly environment and we have transferred her to Nairobi," Ochar said.
The girl was stabbed by an unknown man in Shauri Yako estate, Homa Bay town on Tuesday last week. The man grabbed the girl in a sorghum plantation before he defiled and stabbed her in the eyes with a sharp weapon.

The minor was rescued by women who were passing and rushed to Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.
Ochar said the circumstances under which the girl suffered the ordeal showed that her life was at risk.
A computer tomography (CT) scan indicated that her upper and lower left orbital bone had fractures.
The girl also developed fistula as a result of the sexual assault and she successfully underwent a surgical procedure.
“Our medical officers managed to undertake a surgery that rectified the fistula,” Ochar said.
She said that the girl will undergo psychosocial support.
Homa Bay Sub-county Police Commander Peter Maluki said they are still looking for the suspect who assaulted the girl.
