Paediatric cancer patients seeking treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) are set to benefit from enhanced care facilities following the official reopening of the refurbished paediatric cancer ward.
Led by District Governor Lion Joyce Ndegwa of Lions Club International District 411A, the initiative aims to improve healthcare services for young cancer patients.
Currently, outpatient paediatric cancer patients often travel long distances, incurring substantial transport and accommodation costs, as chemotherapy sessions typically last about four hours.
Lions Club International District 411A donated Sh100,000 to provide breakfast and a hot meal for the patients and their guardians.

An M-Pesa pay bill number will be launched to facilitate donations from well-wishers. Contributions also included a Sh15,000 grant to Hope for Cancer Kids and distribution of 120 wellness packs containing items like sanitary towels and bath soaps, part of the Sh400,000 refurbishment project.
Local sponsors Lions Club of Nairobi Cargen, Lions Club Nairobi Dagoretti, Glory Paints, Matways Civil & Construction Co. Ltd, and Hope for Cancer Kids played crucial roles, contributing resources and expertise.
The directors of Matways Civil & Construction Co. Ltd pledged to develop a play and library area in the ward and refurbish Paediatric Cancer Ward 1E at KNH.
"Supporting KNH to enhance care for paediatric cancer patients is a source of pride," said Ndegwa, emphasising Lions Club's commitment to community health.
"This initiative underscores our dedication," she added, thanking Kulbir Panesar of Glory Paints and all KNH staff for their cooperation.
