Education Ministry assessing schools' floods preparedness

The Ministry of Education is conducting an assessment on schools' preparedness to handle the ongoing heavy rains and floods.
Schools are slated to open for the second term on Monday, April 29.
In a letter addressed to all regional Directors of Education, the Ministry stated that they would collect data in all basic education institutions to ascertain readiness for schools reopening.
"Several parts of the country are reported to be experiencing heavy rains and flooding. As a result, there is a need to establish the effects of the long rains on Basic Education Institutions in the country," it said in a statement.
The regional directors have been urged to coordinate the submission of the data from their various regions by Friday, April 26.

They are also advised to work closely with the school boards of management and other stakeholders to ensure that all basic institutions reopen for second term next week.
Heavy rains have occasioned flash floods across the country, causing damage to property and loss of lives.
