The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is set to promote 36,505 teachers in the 2024 Financial Year.
Speaking during the release of the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia said that 17,914 teachers will be dispatched to primary schools while 18,591 will be sent to Post-Primary schools.
Interviews for the primary school teachers were conducted in December 2023 while those for post-primary teachers are expected to conclude this January.
At the same time, Macharia stated that the Commission is in the process of redistributing an excess of more than 18,000 teachers who were left hanging after the Implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) last year.
"The implementation of the CBC in our primary and Junior Schools has shaken up the staffing levels. As a result, the number of classes in the primary school level has reduced by two classes (Standard 7 and 8)," she said.

The TSC boss also noted Macharia that the additional class in 2024 (Grade 8) in the Junior School has created a staffing shortage of 42,117 teachers.
"Ideally, the number of teachers required this year in Junior School is 99,045 against the current number of 56,928. It's heartening to know, however, that the Government is progressively funding the TSC for the recruitment of additional teachers until optimal levels are achieved," she added.
TSC has already requested the National government for funds for an additional 20,000 teachers.
