Now let's heal and grow our nation, President Uhuru Kenyatta tells Kenyans

Allow us to continue our path of peace and reconciliation as a nation.

That was President Uhuru Kenyatta's rallying call to the international community as he wound up his three-day State visit to France, yesterday.

President Kenyatta said the termination of the case against his deputy William Ruto and journalist Joshua arap Sang, had ended a long and painful six-year battle for Kenya. He said Kenyans are capable of solving their own problems and have done a lot to heal and reconcile, even as next year's General Election beckons.

"We want to be left alone to continue on our path so that we can focus on our true objectives as a nation," he told more than 3,000 Kenyans living in France last night.

He said Kenyans must be given space to work together and ensure justice for victims of the 2007-08 post-election violence, adding that history should not prevent them from achieving their goals.

"Justice is not achieved by doing injustice to another Kenyan," he said.

He urged the international community to allow Kenyans to reconcile and look into the future with hope and not be bogged down by past mistakes.

And in Germany, the President expressed the Government's commitment to providing the support for Germans to invest in Kenya.

"You will not find a better place to invest on our continent. Kenyans are well-educated, they are very diligent and extremely hard-working. In addition, we are a working democracy that guarantees stability," he told business executives attending the Germany-Kenya business forum in Berlin.

President Kenyatta said widening of the scope and variety of tradeable products and services between Germany and Kenya would increase trade volumes and bridge the trade imbalance currently in favour of Germany.

The President rooted for strengthened economic and commercial ties and people-to-people relations between Kenya and Germany.

"The level of trade relations is quite significant with total trade in 2014 standing at over $610 million (Sh61.8 billion) with the balance being in favour of Germany," he said.

He said with the paradigm shift in international engagements being anchored on trade and investment, business forums provide great opportunities to strengthen business ties and explore new trade prospects.
