King of Kapungala Daddy Owen set to wed his fiance Faridah Wambui

It will be a glitzy, invite-only church affair, with the wedding service followed by a dining party, also for the chosen few.

“We decided to go silent about it as we did not want a lot of attention on us,” Daddy Owen, who is also known as the King of Kapungala, told Pulse as he broke the news.

Among those invited are top celebrities and media personalities.

The singer and his sweetheart have known each other for quite a while. They however, went public about their relationship during their celebrity brother Rufftone’s wedding with Krystal in July 2014 after Daddy Owen was cornered into revealing details around his own wedding. Since then, the two have been open about their intended union as well as making confessions about their love.

About nine months ago, the Saluti artiste promised a gift for Faridah as he revealed grand plans for their wedding day.

“I will make sure she gets her fairy-tale wedding, because she means the world to me,” said Daddy Owen. “Finalising the guest list for my wedo. Wondering how wazungu (white people) do it? Family alone tuko 100! Must do it big for her,” Owen revealed on Twitter, confirming that plans were almost complete.

For close to one year, plans have been hatched and re-hatched, with the guest list getting the maximum treatment of chopping and trimming to make sure only people regarded as ‘family’ are invited. A close source indicated that only after the final list was confirmed were the invited guests notified with most of the invites issued between last and this week.

The modest couple have kind words for each other.

Referring to her as his number one fan and loyal critic, Faridah has been seen next to her celebrity boyfriend for four years now. A fashion designer, she has been supportive of Daddy Owen, who introduced her publicly to his friends during launch of his album Vanity, at a star-studded ceremony mid last year.

“She is the one!” Daddy Owen affirmed, adding that Farida complements him in many ways.

“She is always supporting my music career. She even attends concerts when I’m called to perform. She is also my personal advisor.”

Farida comes out as a humble beauty of few words. In fact, she is a media-shy person with a laid back demeanour.

“Having being in the industry long enough, Owen has learnt that both good and bad moments are part of the package. The greatest thing about him is that he is very prayerful. When things get tough, he always turns to God,” remarked Faridah.

Unknown to many, this is the designer who has been behind Daddy Owen’s fashion.

“I am a very private person and I like it that way, Owen is the celebrity so I prefer staying behind the scenes, supporting him all the way and letting him shine,” she told Pulse during an exclusive interview.

It is no wonder that there has been little publicity about her since Pulse revealed that the two were dating back in 2013.

“I knew what I was getting into from the onset and so I prefer to keep it that way,” remarks the beauty who Owen refers to as ‘The Special One’.

Having been together for four years means that she knows him like the palm of her hand and has ultimately risen to become his number one fan. Asked which of his songs she could sing from start to finish, she laughed off the question at first before saying she is his number one fan and therefore knows all his songs.

“I know all his songs but I must admit that Tazama and Be are my favourite ones because they always speak to my heart. I must confess that all his songs move me in different situations as they elicit different emotions,” Farida said.

Farida has been very close to Daddy Owen’s entire family and they have been treating her as one of them since she was introduced to them. Some ladies around Daddy Owen’s close circle even refer to her as ‘mum’.

“Yes they do. Fellow ladies always call me up for chats and the younger ones actually call me ‘mum’ and talk to me whenever they need a word from me,” she noted.

Once they walk down the isle tommorrow, Daddy Owen and Farida will have joined a bunch of celebrities who have quit the singles club.

Back in 2014 Daddy Owen’s elder brother Rufttone and his wife Krystal tied the knot at the Kenya Assemblies of God, Buru Buru, the same place tomorrow’s wedding will be taking place.

The wedding ceremony was a simple but intimate affair with a fairly slim guest list. The wedding reception was at the luxurious Boma Hotel in South C, Nairobi.

Present at the event were Nameless and his wife Wahu, Kevin Mulei and his wife Janet, Ole Willy who was one of the coordinators, Bahati, Esther Wahome, Dunco, DJ Soxxy and Jimmy Gait.

Last year, celebrated TV personality Janet Mbugua got married to Eddie Ndichu in yet another lavish ceremony. The other big weddings were those of media personalities Betty and Dennis Okari and DNG and Yvette Nungari.
