Volkswagen makes winning comeback in Fawcus Cup

After losing the opening match to Manyatta Cider, Volkswagen made a formidable comeback to hammer Whitecap Lager 12-5 in the one-sided Fawcus Cup/Rift Valley Cup Championships match at Manyatta Polo Club in Gilgil on Saturday.

Volkswagen, which typically is the Zimbabweans national team had narrowly fallen 6-5 to Manyatta Cider on their first match were yesterday in a class of their own putting through undisputed goals that left the Kenyan side questioning of their ability to stop the marauding South Africans on Sunday.

Manyatta Cider is the Kenya's Ladies side heading to Lusaka this week for the Zambian International match on Sunday.

The 8-Goal-Zimbabwean side scored most of their goals by Tommy Wood (four) and Bi Bowen (four), both who are handicap three and one respectively.

Richard Brown (3) and Jono Passaportis (1) scored each scored two goals to end up winners with a margin of seven goals.

Archie Voorspuy scored all the five goals for Whitecap Lager. Once again, Amani Nzomo was on top of things when he teamed up with Will Millar to score a total of six goals for Winebox's 7-6 victory over Whitecap Crisp.

Amani and Millar each scored two goals with the former putting through two 60-yard-penalties.

Experienced Jamie Murray who guided the Winebox youngsters in every aspect only managed a goal in the first chukka.

Raphael Nzomo who missed the opening match in the Whitecap Crisp team was outstanding for his side putting through two goals while Craig Millar managed two two and Phillip Arunga one goal.

Raphael replaced Magda Jurkwiecka who was present when Whitecap Crisp lost 6-5 in the hands of Whitecap Lager on Friday.

Amani played deep into the field was always up and down, at times in the offensive and defensive but he could not manage his experienced and speedy father Raphael (Nzomo) who had a good day in the office yesterday.

"It was a tough match but I'm happy we lost with a narrow margin," said Raphael (Nzomo).

Kenya face Zimbabwe this afternoon at the same venue in a Eight-Goal-International match at the same venue from 1pm.
