Kenya Harlequin are the 2024 Kakamega Sevens champions.

Quins who begun the 2024 National Sevens Circuit with a second place finish during the Christie Sevens opening leg redeemed themselves in Kakamega when they saw off KCB 17-12 to emerge top in the second leg played at the ever green Kakamega Showgrounds on Sunday.

KCB were first off the blocks in the final when Elvis Olukusi beat Amon Wamlwa to score the bankers’ first try.

Olukusi returned to haunt Quins again after going over the white wash for his second try that pushed the bankers lead to 12-0.

However, Albert Olela would pull one back for Quins, Amon Wamalwa unselfishly offloading in the try box after making a 60 meter run enroute for a 12-7 lead for the Thika road based side.

Continued pressure from Quins would force an error from the Bankers before Brian Ratila would score in the corner to pull matters level as the game went into extra time.

Lucky Dewald would be the hero of the day, rounding congested part of the field to score the golden points as Quins emerged victorious.

Meanwhile, Kenya Harlequin halfback Lucky Dewald was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the Kakamega Sevens.

Dewald played a key role in the Kenya Harlequin squad and emerged as the hero as they clinched the Kakamega Ingo 7s title.

His outstanding performance also earned him the Player of the Final award.

The diminutive halfback set up Brian Ratila for the try that tied the scores at 12-12, forcing the match into sudden death. In the sudden death, Dewald scored the winning try to secure the title for Quins and propel them to the top of the standings.

Blak Blad’s Meja Mulongo had a weekend to remember in Kakamega, bagging two awards: Top Try Scorer with eight tries and Top Points Scorer.

The Impact Player of the Tournament was Homeboyz’s Rama Sete.
