St Joseph’s Girls are the new Rift Valley Secondary Schools rugby 7s champions.

They achieved the feat after outwitting JM Kariuki of Nakuru 33-5 in a one-sided finals match in Bomet on Friday.

In the semifinals, JM Kariuki trounced Poroko 15-10 as St Joseph’s whitewashed St Alphonsus 24-0 in the second semis.

In the boys’ volleyball semifinals, Andersen defeated Simat with straight sets of 25-15, 25-15 and 25-17 to snatch their ticket to the finals to be played this morning.

Andersen will face former national champions Cheptil, who defeated former regional champions St Patrick’s Iten in straight sets.

In the girls’ volleyball, Nandi champions Kosirai beat Trinity of Nakuru 3-1 with the sets spread in 24-26, 25-19, 25-20 and 25-18.

Kosirai will clash with Trans Nzoia champions Kesogon who dismissed Bomet’s Kaboson by straight sets in the second semis.

Volleyball coordinator Nancy Kamunjeru said the matches were not as competitive as it was before.

“We must admit that the matches were not very competitive as we had expected. This could be because of pooling with some of the top giants getting eliminated at the group stages,” Kamunjeru told Standard Sports.
