Kenya kicked off their 2024 Legends Cup title pursuit on a high note hammered noisy neighbors Uganda 26-15 on Saturday in the first leg held in Uganda.

Former Shujaa star Lavin Asego reminded his fans that he still does have his magical kick when he gave Kenya the lead by splitting the posts with a penalty before the Uganda returned the favor to tie the game at 3-3.

Kenya captain Eddie Omondi then took matters into his own hands when he crossed over the white wash to retake the lead 10-3 after Asego’s conversion.

Despite push and pull, the teams went to the break with Kenya carrying a seven-point advantage.

In the final half, Asego extended Kenya’s lead with another penalty, making it 13-3 despite Uganda’s persistent but fruitless attacks.

Uganda managed to narrow the gap with an unconverted try to cut the gap to 13-8 before Vincent Mose extended Kenya’s lead with an impressive individual effort for 20-8

Kenya Sevens record try scorer Collins Injera then widened the gap further with another try, seemingly securing the game for Kenya as they led 26-8.

The hosts pulled a try back that they converted to trail 26-15.

Despite Uganda’s late efforts, Kenya held on to win ahead of the second leg back in Kenyan.
