Nyanza MPs tell Ruto they will reject Cabinet secretaries ' who can't deliver'

A section of Nyanza MPs wants President William Ruto to consider prioritizing education when constituting a new cabinet.

Suna West MP Peter Masara and Nyatike MP Tom Odege said they want those who will join the cabinet to be people who can deliver and not a political cabinet.

“If the president wants to have peace with Kenyans, then he must put in place a cabinet that is responsive to the needs of the people."

The legislators told President Ruto that he needed to be surrounded by friends who deliver for him to take the country to the next level.

“Economic times are so hard that the people want service delivery with their taxes. We will reject, should he bring a failure for vetting in parliament because Kenya is our business,” Mr Masara said.

They stressed the need for the president to bring a good minister for education, saying Junior Secondary School children were suffering due to insufficient teachers and infrastructure.

“Two years now, and we do not have enough teachers in Junior Secondary Schools. This should be the priority for the president so that Junior Secondary can work for the people of Kenya,” the legislator remarked.

Early this year, a section of legislators had faulted the Competency Curriculum (CBC) education system while calling for the government to allow its reviewing.

The National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi, who cited a failure in the implementation of CBC, said the education sector facing serious challenges in the entire country needed quick intervention.

“It has failed. There is a need for a total rethink. The government needs to own up that the implementation of CBC has failed and therefore we can review it with the view of making improvements,” Wandayi said at a past function in Migori town.

He highlighted that it was not a good idea to domicile Junior Secondary Schools in primary schools.
