JKIA closes runway after 'aircraft incident'

An aircraft incident at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has caused runway closure, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) said on Tuesday.

The Authority, in a statement on social media, said no injuries had been reported following the incident.

There was no explanation on what kind of incident took place.

“Removal of the aircraft is underway.  We apologize for any inconvenience caused and will provide updates shortly,” said KAA.

JKIA, which is East Africa’s top airport, has only a single runway. This means at such a time, no aircrafts can either land or take off.

UPDATE: KAA has announced restoration of normal airport operations saying a disabled aircraft has been recovered.
