Longest serving COTU Chair Rajabu Mwondi is dead

The longest-serving Central Organization of Trade Unions - Kenya (COTU-K) Chairperson Rajabu Wellington Mwondi has died.

This is according to an Twitter announcement by COTU Secretary General Dr. Francis on Wednesday evening, saying Mwondi succumbed to an illness while undergoing treatment at the Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu.

"It is with heavy hearts and profound sorrow that I announce the death of our beloved Chairman General Bro. Rajabu Mwondi who has guided and led us for more than two decades. His legacy will forever remain a beacon of inspiration and dedication to the cause of workers' rights and welfare," Atwoli's statement reads in part.

According to Atwoli, the deceased displayed unwavering commitment to the advancement of the labour movement, advocating tirelessly for fair wages, safe working conditions, and the overall well-being of our members. \

He has also urged Kenyans to honour his memory by carrying forward the torch of his passion and dedication.

Mwondi has served as the Organisation's chair for over 20 years.

"The void left by his passing will undoubtedly be felt deeply, but we are fortified by the values he instilled in us and the example he set.

In this time of grief, let us stand united as a family, offering our deepest condolences to his loved ones,"Atwoli added.
