Police lobbed teargas to disperse protesters in Nairobi on Thursday, July 25.

The protesters were marching to honor victims of police brutality when the incident took place.

On Wednesday, activist Boniface Mwangi had asked Kenyans to come out in large numbers carrying flowers and the national flag to support families of those who lost their lives to police brutality during anti-government protests.

"See you on Kimathi Street at 11 am. Let’s escort the families of our heroes to the crime scene to lay flowers," he had posted on his X page on Wednesday.

Boniface Mwangi's wife, Njeri Mwangi, has since confirmed that the activist was arrested today during the protests.

She says Mwangi is being held at Central Police Station in Nairobi.
