It was pure joy after home club’s Charles Rob and Mary Mariga grabbed the Mug and Medal top prizes respectively at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country course, over the weekend.
The handicap 5 Rob recorded two victories after carding a two over par 73 gross and 68 nett scores to emerge the gross and division A Mug winner respectively in the day-long tournament attended by 110 golfers.
“I still have a long way to go, but things are now looking. I will continue to work on my swings and putting,” said Rob.
On the other hand, handicap 15 Mary Mariga, also with a double victory, was the lady gross winner in division A after producing 95 gross and returning 79 nett.
“This double win is a good reward. My fellow lady golfers should now watch this space” said Mariga.
Handicap 9 Qambar Somji was the division A runner-up on 70 nett, while handicap 10 John Orioro was third on 73 nett.
Sadiq Aboo, playing off handicap 15, returned a countback score of 69 nett to win the division B category after tying with runner-up handicap 17 Sheel Dodhia. Handicap 13 Lawrence Odhiambo was third with 70 nett.
Senior golfer Johnson Wamunyua, playing off handicap 21, carded 61 nett to win the Division C title, while handicap 22 Ushwin Khanna, on 66 nett was the runner-up finisher. Handicap 23 Ijaz Sheikh, with 68 nett, was third.
Handicap 32 Lee Gristwood won the D Division with 64 nett, while handicap 30 Edward Ndungu was the runner-up with 71 nett. The guest prize was won by handicap 18 Dixon Waruinge, who recorded 72 nett, while the day’s best male caddie, on 65 nett, was handicap 12 Kennedy Kamau.
Handicap 32 Rose Kinyanjui had a countback score of 74 nett in Division B.
Meanwhile, Muthaiga’s youngster Shashwat Harish recorded an aggregate four over par to lead in the inaugural NCBA North Rift Junior Open golf tournament at the Nandi Bears golf club.
His victory came after recording a one under par in the first round with an eagle on the par 5 eighth hole and five over par in the second round.
