Over 200 golfers will be battling for top honors in the 2021 Standard Media Group’s County Golf Classic Golf tournament to be played at the par 71 Nyali Golf and Country Club Course in Mombasa county on Saturday.

Club captain Zahir Din confirmed yesterday that it’s a beehive of activities at the Club office for the last three days as golfers enter their names in the registration book.

He said the registration exercise is expected to be closed at 7pm today.

“We are receiving massive entries for the event and are doing everything possible to ensure we finalise the registration exercise by the set deadline,” said Din.

The captain assured golfers that the course is playing well, it’s in an excellent condition,  greens running smooth and pin positions has been placed fairly and friendly to make the day enjoyable.

The day-long 18-holes stable ford event is sponsored by the Standard Media Group under theme, “on the Course for the Green Cause,” that invites golfers  to “Tee off for action against Climate Change” and make the day the count.

Club chairman Taib Bajaber said the Standard Media Group has been associated with the Club for nearly ten years and it was exciting to have them back.

“It’s a privilege to have the Standard Media Group here again. We assure all the golfers that they will enjoy a good game,” said Bajaber.

Standard Group’s Head of Corporate Affairs Charles Kimathi said they are looking forward to an exciting event.

“We (Standard Media Group) are excited to be back at Nyali. This is one of the platforms to interact with our clients and respond to their concerns and feedback which is indeed positive for us. We are all excited and looking forward to the event,” said Kimathi.

The Group’s Chief Executive Officer Orlando Lyomu, an ardent golfer and a member of Limuru Golf Club, is expected to be among the staff players.

The Group’s Human Resource Director Nicholas Siwatom, also a golfer and a member of Royal Nairobi Golf Club, is equally sharpening his golf sticks for the staff prize in the tourney.

According to the condition of play, the tourney is open to all golfing members of the Home club, Mombasa GC, Leisure, Vipingo and guests of the sponsors with valid World Handicapping System (WHS) handicap indices, while nominated juniors and club markers are permitted to play subject to the captain’s discretion.
