The 2024-2025 FKF-Premier League (FKF-PL) season kicks off on Saturday with KCB taking on Kariobangi Sharks and Posta Rangers facing Bandari in early kick-off matches scheduled for 1pm at the Police Sacco Stadium and Kenyatta Stadium.

Last season saw KCB finish a distant 10th, while Kariobangi Sharks secured seventh place on the log. Both teams will be eager to improve their standings this season and make a stronger push in the league.

KCB, in particular, will look to capitalise on their opening fixture to set the tone for a better campaign.

The league resumes at a time when Gor Mahia and Kenya Police are engaged in CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup preliminary ties, adding to the subdued atmosphere.

Gor Mahia suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to South Sudan’s El Merriekh Bentiu in the first leg last weekend, while Kenya Police managed a 0-0 draw against Ethiopia Coffee.

Both teams will play their return legs tomorrow, and their involvement in continental competitions is likely to draw attention away from the domestic league's opening weekend.

Meanwhile, two teams are set to feature in the FKF-PL this season, with Mathare United making a return after a season in the lower division, and Mara Sugar making their top-flight debut.

Both teams earned their promotion from the FKF National Super League last season, with Mara Sugar finishing first with 84 points and Mathare United second with 82 points.

In their debut matches on Sunday, Mathare United face a tough challenge against AFC Leopards at Dandora Stadium, while Mara Sugar will host Kakamega Homeboyz at Awendo Green Stadium.
