SCHOOLS: Dr Aggrey, Musingu star as Kisii comes alive with KSSSA national games

Dr Aggrey High School and Musingu School announced their intent of claiming the vacant KSSSA National football boy’s throne loud and clear on Sunday afternoon after kicking off the Term Two finals on the front foot in Kisii.

Coast Region champions Dr Aggrey’s national debut will be an occasion to remember for the young talented boys after they saw off Takaba 2-1.

The win lifted them to top of Group B with three points same as Highway from Naiorbi.

Highway saw off Rift Valley kings St Joseph Boy’s Kitale 1-0 at Gusii Stadium.

“I am happy with how the boys played because our target was to begin the games with a win. Now we have to build on this debut victory. We only need one more win and we are in the knock outs,” said an elated Dr Aggrey Principal Robert Aran after the match.

Dr Aggrey will face off against Highway on Monday at Gusii Stadium from 10.30am as St Joseph Kitale seek redemption against Takaba.

At the same time, Kakamega County champions Musingu School begun their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Machakos Boys at Cardinal Otunga Mosocho grounds.

With defending champions St Anthony’s Boys Kitale watching the finals from home in Trans Nzoia County, a new King will be crowned on Thursday when curtains come down on the national games and Musingu Scorpions was first off the blocks.

Marvin Ashiundu scored the sole goal for the Western Region champions who sit top of Group A with three points, two points clear off Nyanza’s Koderobara High School and Kirangari from Central.

This is because newbies Koderobara rallied late to force a 2-2 draw against Kirangari.

The Nyanza Region champions had taken the lead when Felix Opiyo converted a 61st minute penalty before Randon Ondiko restored parity for Kirrangari in the 73rd minute.

Five minutes later, Edward Amboka scored what seemed like the winner and a successfully completed comeback victory for Kirangari before Laban Odote salvaged a point for Koderobara at the death in added time.

“it’s our first time playing them and we had no idea of their qualities. Despite mistakes witnessed in the match, we believe we have time to rectify them and go for maximum points against Machakos today in the afternoon,” said Koderobara coach Moses Otieno.

Koderobara from Migori County will play Machakos today at Gusii Stadium in the afternoon while Musingu face off against Kirangari in Cardinal.
