Defending champions Serani relinquished their Coast Region Secondary Schools’ boys football trophy after falling to Tononoka Secondary School in the games that conclude on Saturday at Hola Boys High School, Tana River County.

It was a bitter pill for Serani to swallow after they were shown the door by Tononoka in an all-Mombasa County semifinal affair that was determined through penalties.

The match ended 0-0 in regular time before Tononoka won 4-3 on penalties.

It was a sweet victory for Tononoka coached by Juma Kalato after they avenged their two previous defeats by Serani at the Mvita sub-county and Mombasa County games a fortnight ago

Tononoka will meet the winner between Dr Aggrey of Taita Taveta and Hola Boys who were due to play in the other semifinal last evening.

Dr Aggrey had beaten Lamu's Mpeketoni 8-0 while Hola Boys edged out Shimba Hola from Kwale County 2-1 to sail through.

However, the Hola and Shimba Hill match was temporarily stopped with less than eight minutes to go due to pitch invasion by fans before it resumed after police intervention.

In the girls' category, holders Kombani take on Kaya Tiwi in an all-Kwale County final match today after both teams overcame their respective opponents in the semifinals.

The two teams met a fortnight ago during the Kwale County final where Kombani saw off Kaya Tiwi 2-0 win.

The winners of Saturday’s finals will qualify for the national games set to be held in Kisii.
