The Money Team, a franchise owned by five-time boxing world champion Floyd Mayweather has made clear its intentions of expanding its business in Kenya.
The Money Team franchise feature has specialised boxing programming based on Mayweather’s own training regimens, virtual reality training, personal training and several other workout amenities.
TMT, through their newly appointed Vice-President of Africa operations Thabo Molefe AKA TBO Touch revealed they would be bringing the Mayweather Boxing and Fitness gym franchise to different cities across Africa.
In a Tweet, TBO said:
“Finally the undefeated champion of the world Floy Mayweather and the Money team takes the world by storm. Look out for Mayweather Fitness Gyms, TMT clothing and merchandise & in Joburg, Cape Town, Lagos, Nairobi & Cairo. As we all Rise & Thrive,” said TBO.
Who is TB Touch
TBO Touch is a famous media personality and businessman in South Africa. He has made his mark in the entertainment industry as a DJ, radio, and television personality.
His appointment came just a few months after the multibillion-dollar boxing champion visited South Africa in January 2020 as part of the four-city visit in a bid to "resuscitate" boxing in the nation.
The Mayweather Boxing and Fitness opened its first location in Los Angeles on July 27, 2018, encompassing workout experience for local gym-goers.
Currently, the TMT franchise has managed to open 44 outlets in less than two years across different cities within the United State.
The 42-year-old long week visit to South Africa early this year as part of his initiative in expanding the franchise across Africa. During his visit, Mayweather took part in community boxing initiatives, meeting with government officials, administrators as well as different authorities in South African’s sports and entertainment industry.
In 2018, in an interview with Club Solutions Mayweather expressed his ambition of taking his franchise to different parts of the world.
“My goal is for there to be Mayweather Boxing + Fitness members in every community around the world, whether through one of our studios, our digital app or our VR product. We’re democratizing fitness and making it accessible to anyone,” Mayweather said.
“We have a rapid growth trajectory, with plans for 500-plus locations within five years and see this to be very realistic after the incredibly positive response we’ve already received from those interested in purchasing a franchise immediately following our announcement,” he added.
Mayweather currently holds a world record after beating UFC's Conor McGregor in a boxing match in August 2017 to extend his perfect record to 50 wins in 50 matches, winning 27 of them via knockout.
Last year, he was ranked as the highest-paid athlete of the past 10 years having banked $915 million USD thanks to his headline dominating fights against Manny Pacquiao and Conor McGregor in 2015 and 2017. ?
