Eldoret National Polytechnic beat Kisumu Polytechnic 1-0 in a match marred with controversy to be crowned this year’s Kenya Technical Institutions Sports Association (KETISA) football title.
Maurice Mido’s 48th minute goal was enough to damage Kisumu Polytechnic in a match both sides wasted numerous chances.
Kisumu Polytechnic goalkeeper Abbas Onyango put up a man of the match performance but in the end Mido’s simple tap-in from close range broke his resolve.
The lake side boys went closer to levelling matters in the 59th minute when striker Conrad Sisama shot only for Eldoret Polytechnic goalkeeper Victor Kiprono to save the day for the hosts.
Former Rivatex player Dancun Odindo now coaching Eldoret Polytechnic said: “We believe in discipline and we showed that today (Wednesday).”
Kisumu Polytechnic coach Peter Odhiambo said they were disappointed with the way the referee handled the match saying he was unfair to them.
“Our players walked off the pitch because, clearly the referee was biased,” Odhiambo said.
Host Principal Josphat Sawe, congratulated all the teams saying the meaning of the event was to create friendship among teachers and students from various institutions.
“It is not always about winning the titles. It helps us also interact and learn more from what others are doing,” he said.
National Industrial Training Authority (NITA) and Eldoret Polytechnic were winners in women and men’s volleyball finals.
