Western Region Secondary Schools girls' hockey champions Tigoi are seeking a memorable return to the national games after missing from last year's event.
Tigoi are favourites to win this year's title after they eliminated 2017 national winners St Cecilia Misikhu at the regional finals.
However, they will face an uphill task against seven other teams in the title battle as this year's Brookside Secondary Schools National Term One Games begin on Tuesday at Kangaru School, Embu.
Tigoi will be out to improve on their 2016 second-place finish.
Tigoi coach Moses Erima said their main objective is to excel at both the national and East Africa games.
"Playing at the East Africa games is our main objective and the girls know that for them to achieve that feat, they must excel at the nationals," Erima said.
He added that their first aim is to advance to the semis. They are in Group B together with debutantes Moi Marsabit, who will be in pursuit of a memorable entry to the national scene.
They will also face a stiff challenge from former holders Nyamira Girls of Nyanza, who return to the nationals after years of absence. Bura of Coast are also in the mix.
Mt Laverna of Nairobi will be hoping to announce their national entry with victory in Group A.
