Nairobi Region girls' handball champions, Dagoretti Mixed, are eager to make their fifth consecutive appearance at the Brookside National Term One Games count.

Despite dominating Nairobi and qualifying for the nationals since 2019, Dagoretti are yet to taste national glory and are chasing their maiden trophy.

Last year was not a good year for the city girls, as they struggled and exited the tournament at the group stage. They are now looking to improve on their 2024 sixth-place finish.

Dagoretti coach Wilson Oduor said his team is determined to redeem itself, perform better, and qualify for the East Africa Games.

"We have been very consistent, qualifying for the nationals since 2019. Last year was not good for us, but we didn't leave the competition empty-handed, as we took home invaluable lessons that I believe will help us excel going forward," Oduor said.

Dagoretti are in Group A alongside defending champions Moi Girls Kamusinga, newcomers Kyeni Girls from Eastern, and the North Eastern champions, who will be decided this week.

Oduor said their first objective is to progress from the group stage and secure a semi-final spot.

"Apart from Kamusinga, our other two opponents are new to us, and we don't know what to expect from them apart from stiff competition. Just like us, they are champions in their respective regions and have earned their place at the games, so we can't take any chances," Oduor added.

Qualifying for the semi-finals will set them up against one of the top two sides from Group B, which includes 2023 national champions St Joseph's Girls High School Kitale from Rift Valley, who return to the tournament after a one-year absence.

Newcomers Thika Girls Karibaribi from Central and Kadika Girls from Nyanza will be looking to make a statement on the national stage.
