Former Kenya Volleyball Federation Men's National League champions General Service Unit beat National Youth Service (NYS) 3-1 in a match played today at the Nyayo Gymnasium.

The victory saw the paramilitary side, which is looking to reclaim its title and end a two-year trophy drought, enhanced their chances of finishing on top of the standings ahead of the play-offs. GSU dominated in the first set easily taking it 25-15 as NYS who were chasing their second win of the season struggled to defend their hard hits.

Despite going a set down, NYS trainees gained courage to put up a spirited fight to snatch the second set 25-22.

GSU recovered to win the third and fourth sets 25-21 and 25-15 to register their 11th win.

GSU moved to second place with 33 points, a point adrift leaders Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and one more than defending champions Kenya Prisons, who until yesterday were second with 32 points. A victory for GSU against Prisons Nairobi may see them leap to the summit. NYS on the other hand will hunt for a second win against Western Prison.

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) cemented their fifth place with a 3-1 (25-19, 24-26, 25-20, 25-16) win against Kenya Airport Police Unit (KAPU). The win assured the soldiers of a place in the play-offs but also reduced KAPU chances.

However, KAPU who have 18 points and a match in hand can still qualify if they win their last game against Prisons Nairobi though it also largely depends on the performance of KFS.

Trailblazers consolidated their place in the top eight following their 3-1(25-12, 23-25, 25-16, 25-23) win against Kenya Forest Services (KFS). They now have 25 points from six wins and seven losses. Trailblazers will today take on KDF in their last regular season match. [Elizabeth Mburugu]
