Equity Bank leave champs Kenya Prisons stunned

Equity Bank humbled defending champions Kenya Prisons in straight sets as the fourth leg of the 2024-2025 season of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) Men's National League ended yesterday at Kasarani Indoor Arena.
Equity made their intentions to win known from the onset. The bankers were tactical and intentional with both their defence and attack ensuring there were minimal errors.
Their good show saw them take the first set 25-19 and take a 1-0 lead against the warders, who until the match, had only lost to former champions the General Service Unit (GSU).
The second set was a neck-and-neck battle with Kenya Prisons, who are looking to extend their reign to three years in a row, showing improvement in some aspects of the game.
Nonetheless, it was the bankers who seemed more keen on bagging more points as they grabbed the second set 27-25. Equity remained focused to win the third set 25-20 even as the warders crumbled to their second loss of the season.
At Nyayo Volleyball court, the going got tougher for relegation stuck Mt Kenya Base Yetu and the National Youth Service (NYS) who lost their respective matches.
Base Yetu's losing streak continued after they suffered a straight sets loss of 25-14, 34-32 and 25-22 to Western Prisons.
After easily losing the first set, Base Yetu showed resistance in second and third sets but were unable to overcome the Western warders who are determined to avoid relegation.
NYS trainees on the other hand could not resist attacks from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) as they allowed the soldiers cruise to victory.
KDF had it easy taking the first set 25-15 before totally subduing NYS to secure victory with a score of 25-9 and 25-10 in the second and third sets.
Kenya Forest Services (KFS) also had a fruitful outing as they dismissed Administration Police of Kenya (APK) 3-1.
KFS, who are looking to finish in the top eight and remain in title contention, won the first two sets 25-23 and 29-27 before APK stepped up to take the third 25-23 and delay their victory.
KFS fought relentless in the fourth set and their efforts paid off when they took it 25-23 to bag maximum points.
Kenya Airport Police Unit (KAPU) failed to build on their shock 3-2 win against Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) on Saturday to lose to Trailblazers Volleyball Club.
