Experienced Kimoi Moi scored two goals against White Cap Lager to propel Amiran to a pole position in the Millar Mug Championships in a mouthwatering match at Manyatta Polo Club in Gilgil on Saturday.

Amiran defeated White Cap Lager 3.5-1 in the one sided match. International Archie Voorspuy replied for the losers.

Craig Millar scored the third goal for Amiran with Emily Stonewigg and Grant Gurden providing the necessary support for the team in the race for top honours.

And in their last round robin match ahead of the finals this morning, Amiran defeated White Cap Crisp 6-2.5.

Kimoi scored three goals in this match, which was their second round robin encounter last evening.

At some point in the second chukka, White Cap Crisp led 2.5-2, a development that gave pressure to Kimoi's team to play their hearts out to keep their winning ways, thanks to the spirited efforts of international Craig Millar who was in a class of his own.

Craig scored a 30-yard penalty to increase Amiran's tally to four goals with a few minutes to the final whistle.

A few seconds later, Craig added the fifth and the sixth goals for the winners. Harry Stichbury scored the two consolation goals for White Cap Crisps.

Earlier, White Cap Crisps had shocked White Cap Lager with a 2.5-1 victory despite being the weaker side on handicap.

"Looks good but possibly it'll continue as we wind up tomorrow (today)," tournament coordinator Goddy Millar told Standard Sports.

In the Junior Championships, Kenyan Polo dismissed Tack Rack 2-1.5 to take the lead after a dismal performance in the opening match against the same side on Friday.

Tack Rack had beaten Kenyan Polo 1.5-1 in the first match.
