Trans Nzoia football champions St Joseph’s romped into quarterfinals of Rift Valley Secondary Schools Games after emerging tops in their group at Bomet Stadium on Thursday
They defeated Kabarnet Boys 2-0, drew 0-0 with Arsen having earlier smashed Thingitu of Laikipia 3-1 in their opening match to lead Pool D with seven points from three matches.
Kaplong’ Boys drew 1-1 with Tambach having secured a 1-0 win over Kericho champions Kabianga on the first day to enhance their chances of reaching the last eight in Pool C.
“It’s a tough match, but we are taking one match at a time as we hope to cruise to the knockout stages,” said Brian Kiplangat, the scorer of the lone goal against Kabianga.
He added that they’ll not underrate any team on their way to the finals. In girls’ 3x3 basketball, Kaptagat and Nakuru Girls romped into the quarterfinals after finishing tops in their group at Longisa High School.
Kaptagat won all their Pool D matches beating Laiser Hill Academy 7-5, dismissed Samburu 15-5 and defeated Nakuru Girls 8-5 to finish with maximum nine points from three matches. Nakuru Girls were second with six points.
Nakuru Girls dismissed Samburu 18-2 and defeated Laiser 10-7 before losing to Kaptagat. Today, Nakuru Girls face Kapropita in the first quarterfinal match as Kaptagat take on Kaplong. Nasokol will Cheptil, while Ndururumo play St Joseph’s High School in the other quarterfinals.
The boys’ 3x3 basketball quarterfinal matches will see St Joseph’s take on Kapenguria Boys, Ndururumo face Simotwo, Emining play Laiser Hill Academy and Nakuru champions Menengai meet Kabianga.
In rugby 7s, Chebisaas of Uasin Gishu walloped Nakuru County champions Jomo Kenyatta 12-5 in the opening pool B match.
